Moore Park is a sought-after quiet neighbourhood north of Rosedale, being surrounded on all sides by parkland, including the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, the Moore Park Ravine, the Park Drive Ravine and the railway tracks, and the Vale of Avoca Ravine. When Moore Park was subdivided in 1889, it was intended as an exclusive Toronto suburb by its developer, John Thomas Moore, who built the Belt Line Railway commuter train, with a station in Moore Park. Unfortunately, the Belt Line Railway opened untimely just before a Depression and most development was delayed until the early 1900s and was completed by about 1930.
The community is served by 2 elementary schools, 2 Catholic school, 2 public high schools, and 1 public library. Nearby colleges includes De La Salle College on Avenue Road at Farnham, George Brown College just south of Davenport, St Michael's College nearby at Bathurst & St Clair. University of Toronto and Ryerson University is accessed via the Yonge-University-Spadina subway.
Moore Park is served by the Yonge & St. Clair or the Mount Pleasant & Davisville shopping districts, which both have great shops, gourmet groceries and fine dining.
Moore Park residents who live in the more secluded south-east pocket of the neighbourhood can walk across a railway overpass to the small collection of neighbourhood stores on Summerhill Avenue
Moore Park is surrounded by natural areas and recreational pathways that are part of the Beltline Trail system which continues for 8 kilometres. The community has a number of tennis courts, and has cinemas to the north, along Mount Pleasant and at Yonge & Eglinton.
The homes in Moore Park were built between 1908 and 1930, and include homes in the English Cottage, Georgian, and Tudor-styles on large lots with many enjoying ravine views. Many houses share driveways, a left-over from the original commuter-friendly vision. There are also a number of newer townhouses, and duplexes in the community. House prices range from low-medium to luxury levels.
