Economic prosperity and rapid growth in the Lower Lonsdale area of North Vancouver, then with a population of 1500, led to the 1907 establishment of the City of North Vancouver, with West Vancouver going on its own in 1912. Ferry service with Vancouver began with a rowboat in 1866, followed by the SeaFoam steamship that continued until 1958. The SeaBus began service in 1977. The first Second Narrows Bridge was built in 1925 providing a rail and road link with the Lower Mainland to supplement the ferry service.

Lower Lonsdale is the part of North Vancouver between Keith Road and the Burrard Inlet waterfront. This neighbourhood has fast access to downtown Vancouver via the SeaBus from Lonsdale Quay.

Shopping

There is lots of shopping at the Lonsdale Quay Market, or at the many shops & restaurants up Lonsdale Avenue. The SeaBus gives access in about 10 minute to shopping in Downtown Vancouver.

The community is popular with many of the young people. A new development is being built at the location of the old shipyards, mixing new buildings with old ones. Price Range in Lower Lonsdale: from $150,000 to $1,500,000
