These communities lie north of Lougheed Highway (#7) on the south slope of Burnaby Mountain, and include the neighbourhoods of Forest Heights, Lake City, Simon Fraser Hills, Oakdale, and Sullivan Heights. Burnaby Mountain rises 370m (1214ft) and is the location of Simon Fraser University (and the UniverCity), the Discovery Park research community, and the System Control Tower of BC Hydro and the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area. At the bottom of the mountain is a major storage facility of the Trans Mountain Pipe Line.
The homes lower on the slope are single-family, while higher up, both closer to Simon Fraser University and with better views are multi-family townhouses and condos.
The area's best shopping is to the southeast around Lougheed Mall
Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area has wildlife including deer, coyotes, a few black bears, sand a wide variety of birds from woodpeckers to Great Blue Herons. Centennial Gardens on the west side of the mountain has great west-facing views of all of Vancouver and the Burrard Inlet, as well as Indian Arm to the north. Burnaby Mountain also has some challenging mountain biking trails. Burnaby Mountain Golf course is just to the west, Vancouver Golf Club is just to the east, and the recreational pathways around Burnaby Lake are close by.
The neighbourhoods are served by several elementary schools and by Burnaby Mountain High School. Resident don't have far to travel to simon Fraser University, atop Burnaby Mountain.
