Springbank is a an unincorporated community in the Municipal District of Rocky View, and lies immediately west of the City of Calgary and extends west to Highway 22 and north to the Bow River. Springbank is named after Springbank Creek which flows southeast into the Elbow River. Early settlers built houses near the many springs that cam our of small coulees in the area.
Springbank is home to Calgary's second most important airport, Springbank Airport.
Springbank residents can get into Calgary either via the Trans-Canada Highway or using Lower Springbank Road (north of Highway 8).
The area is served by three schools, Elbow Valley Elementary School (K-4), Springbank Middle School (5-8) and Springbank Community High School (9-12). A private school in the area is Webber Academy
Shopping is done in Calgary to the east, with stores most accessible either at West Hills or at Stratcona Centre
Springbank Park For All Seasons has sports facilities for skating and curling, beside the Hihg School, and Springbank is also home to the only amusement park in Calgary, Calaway Park. The area also has a couple of golf courses: Pinebrook Golf Club, Glencoe Golf and Country Club, Springbank Links Golf Course and Elbow Springs Golf Course.
Springbank is known for its relatively many estate homes and acreages. The eastern portion of Springbank was annexed into Calgary and is now known as the neighbourhood of Springbank Hill (a neighbourhood). The adjacent communities of Bearspaw and Elbow Valley /Redwood Meadows are similarly composed of large estates.
