Moving to Toronto, Ontario home neighbourhoods, realtors, and movers

WHY BE Moving to Toronto?

Toronto is the largest city in Canada, and is the heart of Ontario's (and by extension, Canada's) manufacturing, finance, government administration, media, and marketing sectors. The city has a range of small between-the-wars homes, luxury homes (in areas like Rosedale, and Bridle Path), and modern lakeshore condos. The city is linguisticly and ethnicly diverse, with people who have moved here from pretty well every other conuntry on the planet. Pearson Airport, likewise, connects the city with all other parts of the world.

A military fort at the time of the War of 1812, and prized for its natural harbour, Toronto quickly grew as a trading and manufacturing centre, with the Don River home to brewers, distillers, brickworks, and textile manufacturers. The railways connected Toronto to the vast forests and mineral resources of northern Ontario, and made Toronto the export gateway for Candian manufacturing.

Toronto has long been the provincial capital, and also grew to be the head office capital of Canada's industry, retailing and finance. Downtown became home to ever-higher buildings, culminating in the CIBC building which was for a time the tallest building in the British Commonwealth. After World War II, the downtown grew into a modern skyline, including the CN Tower.

The post-war period attracted immigrants from all around the world, and the city expanded beyond its boundaries to become the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) of today.

Residences in Balmy Beach Toronto added the subway system to speed communters into the downtown and across the city. To the north, in North York, Highway 401 was built with 16 lanes of traffic to speed cross-town automobile traffic.

Toronto has the second-highest proportion of immigrants in the world (over half were born outside Canada), after Miami, Florida. Toronto's however reflect a much more diverse cultural & linguistic mix, with a tranquility and tolerance that is the hallmark of Canadian society. The resulting proliferation of ethnic neighbourhoods, ethnic shops and restaurants representing cultures around the world is second to none.

Queen at Roncesvalles Street Car turnaround Toronto, recently amalgamated from five municipalities, is Canada's largest city with a population of 4.3 million, and is the capital of the province of Ontario. "Toronto" is the Huron Indian word that means "place of meeting" Toronto is the head office capital of Canada, the financial centre of he country, home of the second largest stock exchange in North America, and home to the country's busiest airport. Toronto is also home to the world's tallest building, the CN Tower (which dominates our skyline). If that isn't BIG enough, the city's new mayor, Mel Lastman has voiced an interest in making Toronto a province.

Residents have plenty to do! The city has plenty of major league sports with teams that include the Blue Jays, Leafs, Raptors, and Argonauts. The city has over 5,000 restaurants and eateries and nightlife to match.

The city is a multicultural mecca, and has more than 100 ethnic groups speaking approximately 100 languages. Yonge Street, our main thoroughfare, is the longest street in the world (about 1,200 miles/ 1,800 km long). You can also head underground for shopping in the world's biggest underground city, which is connected to train stations and subways stations. At any one time, there are some 40 productions playing - including Broadway musicals, classical concerts, ballet and opera, plus a range of "leading edge" productions!
