South Kelowna / Mission neighbourhoods - Okanagan Valley
This area winds along the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, with abut 8,000 residents. Lower Mission being the area closest to downtown and extends from K.L.O. Road to Creighton Road. Lower Mission was once a separate community, which was amalgamated into Kelowna in 1974. The area is flat, near the lake, and close to shopping and dining. It is a very desirable family area with good elementary schools and secondary schools.
Upper Mission is south of Creighton Road and is the southernmost neighbourhood of Kelowna and includes the Kettle Valley, Southridge, West Point, and Crawford Estates sub-divisions. Upper Mission has some great hillside areas with views, but still drops down to the waterfront.
Upper Mission is a 15 minute drive from downtown, 10 minutes from Kelowna General Hospital, 15-20 minutes from Orchard Park Mall and 30 minutes from Kelowna International Airport.
This area is served by 3 elementary schools (1 with French immersion) a middle school (also with French immersion and a secondary school nearby. This area is close to Okanagan University College.
The Lower Mission has a wide variety of shopping & dining options including major grocery stores, fast food outlets, and fine dining,. There are clothing boutiques along Pandosy and the Mission Park Shopping Centre is quite complete.
Upper Mission is mostly master-planned residential communities, with many amenities like coffee shops, boutiques and restaurants in compact retail clusters.
The area features Woodhaven Regional Park, Bertram Creek Regional Park and Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park for hiking, mountain biking and cross-coutnry skiing. There are great recreational pathways in the community. For water sports there are Sarsons Beach, the popular Gyro Beach, and more small beach accesses along the lakefront. There is also the Mission Sports Field, Fairview Golf Course, Michaelbrook Ranch Golf Club, Mission Creek Golf Club. The area is home to Summerhill Winery.
The Lower Mission homes range from large lakeshore homes to family homes, condominiums and townhouses on cul-du-sacs and quiet streets. The homes in this area tend to be in the upper price range with lakeshore property at the highest price points.
Upper Mission has mostly single family homes on large lots with townhome developments in master planned neighborhoods. The homes range from elegant lakeshore estates, small lakeshore cottages, some moderately priced executive housing, and some homes with swimming pools and/or great views toward the Okanagan bridge and across to Peachland.
