This is the part of Kelowna north of the airport, and just 20 minutes from downtown. The homes here are typically view lots overlooking Lake Okanagan. This neighbourhood is also home to the famous Gray Monk winery, overlooking Okanagan Lake.
This area north of Winfield has recently been incorporated as "Lake Country" and combines four previously distinct and separate communities: Oyama, Winfield, Carr's Landing, and Okanagan Centre, with a combined population of about 11,000 (2006). These communities are all close to water including Okanagan Lake, Kalamalka Lake, Wood Lake, and Duck Lake.
This area is served by School District 23 Central Okanagan and is served by three elementary schools (one with French immersion) and a secondary school. It is a short drive to the UBC Okanagan campus, with a range of post-secondary offerings. The community also has a public library.
Lake Country has a complete range of grocery stores, restaurants and fast food, coffee shops, banks, shopping and boutiques. Winfield also has shopping, restaurants, banks, and recreation along Hihgway 97B, but residents can head south to Kelowna's Harvey Avenue for any major shopping and larger malls. or north into Vernon.
There are many parks in Lake Country, with playgrounds, sports fields, and paths for hiking, biking, and walking. The lakes are also accessible for a variety of water sports & boating. This neighbourhood also has attractions like the Gray Monk Winery, The Jammery and the Creekside Theatre.
This area offers a combination of acreages, condos and single family housing with views of both lakes and mountains.
