This part of Kelowna is east of Highway 97 and north of Highway 33. This includes the neighbourhoods of Black Mountain, Joe Riche, and extends to Big White. Thiis part of Kelowna has about 26,000 residents. Black Mountain ( east of Rutland South and South East Kelowna) includes the rural areas of Belgo with its acreages, orchards, and even vineyards, and Black Mountain, which is about 10 miles from downtown. with larger country-style homes many with good views Joe Riche is east of Goudie Road and on both sides of Hwy 33 to its Summit. Big White is Kelowna's world-renowned Ski Resort, offering year-round recreation, and has lots of hillside chalets and condos.
These communities are served by School District 23 Central Okanagan, and have 2 elementary schools (one with French Immersion), and a middle school with the Secondary School (also with French immersion) a commute away
These communities are close to shopping in Rutland and minutes from the malls along Highway 97.
Black Mountain is has the new (2009) Black Mountain Golf Course, and the area is close to the Big White Ski Resort, with year round recreation (summer hiking and mountain biking)
Black Mountain has mostly single family homes, and recently-built luxurious single family houses and family-friendly townhouses. Including single family homes, condos, and townhomes around the newly built Black Mountain Golf Course. Joe Riche is mostly single family homes, and some townhouses. Big White is mostly visitor-focused condo developments close to the ski hill.
