  • View to Perto-Canada Pier from Bronte Provincial Park The Village of Bronte was founded in 1834 and named as a tribute to British Naval Hero, Admiral Nelson, who was granted the "Duchy of Bronte" (in Sicily) for his naval victories. Many of Bronte's original settlers were United Empire Loyalists, who left the United States after the revolution, and the streets were named for these founding fathers including Sovereign, Hixon, Nelson and Belyea (many of those families continue to live in the area). Bronte's first harbour was completed in 1856 and became important for shipping grain and timber, though with the coming of the railway, it turned to commercial fishing in the late 1800s. In 1954 Bronte Village became amalgamated into the Town of Oakville. Today, Bronte is home to the Halton Region l Offices, just north of the QEW.

Bronte Creek Provincial Park is the community's jewel, and has a number of attractions and year-round camping. Western Oakville also has numerous parks along the many creeks and ravines, many with their own recreational pathways. The harbour at the mouth of Bronte Creek has slips and moorings for sail and powerboats, and the harbour features a boardwalk and pier! This part of Oakville has several ice arenas, and a number of indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a public beach.
