  • Where
    These communities are nested between the Conestoga Parkway and the 401, and lie west of Highway 8. Kingsdale is ringed by the Fairway Rd shopping area including Fairway Mall and a cinema. South of Fairway is the Hidden Valley community, just north of the Grand River. West of Homer Watson Boulevard is the community of Country Hills, built around McLennan Park and the Forest Glen Plaza. Country Hills has a new Glencairn subdivision, popular with families. This rea is expanding with new housing subdivisions to east of Homer Watson and west of Fischer-Hellman Rd S (which will eventually extend to the village of Mannheim to the west). South of s small industrial park is the Brigadoon / Pioneer Park / Doon communities. These communities are build around creekside parklands, extensive parks along the Grand River, and has ready access to Conestoga College’s main campus just north of the 401. On the east side of the Grand River is the new subdivision of Deer Ridge, which is close to shopping, entertainment and Hwy. 401, with many spacious upscale homes close to two golf courses along the scenic Grand River. Gateway Park shopping area is in this area along with the Pioneer Sportsworld and the SilverCity cinemas.

    Schools

Post-secondary education is available at Conestoga College, with its Kitchener campus, and with University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier University in nearby Waterloo, and University of Guelph.

    Shopping
    This part of Kitchener is well served by 3 significant shopping malls and plazas, and has a number of vibrant retail areas along Fairway Rd and King St E.

    Recreation
    This area of Kitchener has several large parks, two golf courses, the Doon Heritage Crossroads Pioneer Village, a public gallery and the Waterloo Pioneers Memorial Tower (national historic site). For athletes, there are lots of baseball diamonds, soccer/football fields, public tennis courts, swimming pools, and the Chicopee Ski Hill is nearby, on the city's SE corner.

    Homes
    Kitchener is mature and has a range of homes, both new & resale/ Prices for Single family detached run $220,000 (2006 prices), Semi-detached residential $155,000, Townhouses/Row houses $170,000, and Condominium Units are averaging $120,000.

    Kitchener has designated three districts for historical preservation including Upper Doon, Victoria Park and the neighbourhood of veterans' housing around St. Mary's Hospital. The Civic Centre area in the city's core is under consideration.
