  • Where
    The Downtown area is centered around and mostly south of the intersection of King Street and Victoria Street. The business & shopping area is fairly dense and surrounded by a number of older traditional neighbourhoods. Victoria Park neighbourhood, just southwest of downtown, features beautiful older homes on tree-lined streets around Kitchener’s largest downtown park, where the city’s famous clock tower stands, and is close to the Belmont Village shopping district. Cherry Hill , west of downtown, has a mix of commercial (mostly along Highland Rd), single family homes and multi-residential dwellings. The K-W Hospital neighbourhood, northwest of downtown along King Street, has the homes of Kitchener’s original industrial leaders with many medium-sized and large older homes close to the Grand River Hospital. The Mt. Hope - Huron Park area, north of downtown and Victoria Street is an established neighbourhood with many affordable housing options, including bungalows, two-storey homes and multi-residential, and some commercial along Victoria Street. This area’s open spaces include Breithaupt Park and the very old Mount Hope Cemetery. Civic Centre Park has a number of stately older homes on spacious, manicured properties, close to the city’s square, concert hall, and art gallery. The Central Frederick neighbourhood, east of downtown, features older homes with large porches along well-treed streets, Suddaby Public School (home of Canada’s first kindergarten program), as well as the provincial courthouses and historic Governor’s House and Gaol. The Auditorium community is divers, historic, and is home to a small number of service businesses and organizations. King East, is southeast of downtown along King Street, and is a culturally-diverse neighbourhood of modest homes and small businesses close to Your Kitchener Market. Cedar Hill Neighbourhood:, south of downtown and west of King Street, was Kitchener’s oldest neighbourhood (originally called Sand Hills) with many multi-unit residential dwellings.

    Schools
    The community is served by 9 elementary schools, 3 high schools, and a public library. Post-secondary education is available at Conestoga College, with a Kitchener campus, a with University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier University in nearby Waterloo, and University of Guelph.

    Shopping
    Downtown Kitchener is well served by one significant shopping malls, and has a number of vibrant retail areas including Downtown along King Street and in Belmont Village.

    Recreation
    College Square Cinemas This part of Kitchener has 2 performance theatres, 2 cinemas, 3 museums, and two public galleries, For athletes, there are baseball diamonds, soccer/football fields, public tennis courts, swimming pools, and a golf course to the south. There is the Chicopee Ski Hill, nearby on the city's SE corner.

    Homes
    Kitchener is mature and has a range of homes, both new & resale/ Prices for Single family detached run $220,000 (2006 prices), Semi-detached residential $155,000, Townhouses/Row houses $170,000, and Condominium Units are averaging $120,000.

    Kitchener has designated three districts for historical preservation including Upper Doon, Victoria Park and the neighbourhood of veterans' housing around St. Mary's Hospital. The Civic Centre area in the city's core is under consideration.
