Privilege Fees
Privilege fees are collected at the time an application is submitted and are payments for a specific right or privilege, such as the acquisition of permanent resident status (Right of Landing Fee) or Canadian citizenship (Right of Citizenship Fee). If the right or privilege is not granted, the fee must be refunded. Privilege fees are paid in addition to the processing fees for applications for permanent residence or Canadian citizenship. Right of Landing Fee The Right of Landing Fee is payable by all adult immigrants 19 years of age and over, regardless of nationality, ethnic origin or immigrant class, who apply to become permanent residents of Canada. Right of Citizenship Fee The Right of Citizenship Fee is payable by all adult applicants 18 years of age and over who apply to become citizens of Canada. Processing Fees Processing fees are collected at the time an application is submitted and help cover some of the costs of processing. How to Pay Fees may be paid in Canadian dollars in Canada; U.S. or Canadian dollars at Ports of Entry; U.S., Canadian or local currency at Canadian offices abroad.The following forms of payment will be accepted: - Payable in Canadian funds by a Canadian Official Bank Cheque/draft drawn on a Major Canadian Commercial Bank or Canadian Money order. Fees remitted in Canadian funds must be payable to Receiver General for Canada.
- Payable in US funds by US Official Bank Check/Draft drawn on a Major US Commercial Bank or US Money Order. Fees remitted in US funds must be payable to the Canadian Consulate General.
- Checks dated six months prior to receipt of application are not valid and will be returned.
Note that inside Canada, payment must be by money order from the National Bank of Canada, which also serves as your receipt of payment.
