The district of Lakeview dates back to the era of constructing the Saskatchewan Legislature, when the wealthier residents of that time chose to build their mansions with a view of the structure. Since then, Albert St has become a main thoroughfare. It was even, for time, the Trans-Canada highway route through the city until the Ring Road by-pass was built. The area remains, to this day, full of stately homes with large lawns. The Community has three distinct areas: Old Lakeview, South Lakeview and Lakeview Place, of which the earlier listed ones have the older homes. Old Lakeview's homes are about 75 years old, are well maintained and have some of the best trees in the city. South Lakeview and Lakeview Place have homes in the 40-50 year age range and have a range of homes from inexpensive right up to mansion-size, as well as some apartments. Schools The community has two public elementary, a Catholic elementary, Sheldon Williams High School. The public library is a short drive, either to the north or the south. The University of Regina is close-by and SIAST's Albert South campus is just across Albert St. Shopping Shoppers generally use the malls conveniently on Albert Street about a kilometre away. Recreation The community has an 18 hole golf course nestled against the airport, an par 3 course on its west edge, and The Kinsmen South Park on its southern edge. The Wascana Centre is across Albert Street, with access to the Lake, the Wascana Trail recreational pathway, and the Wascana outdoor pool.
