  • Intercity Shopping Centre is right there This is the heart of what used to be Fort William. It is just north of the old downtown, sandwiched between the CN Railway tracks on the west and the Kamistiquia River on the east. The area west of May Street, the main north-south thoroughfare, has larger nicer homes and the area to the east has many smaller fixer-uppers. It is one of the older neighbourhoods in Thunder Bay and is dotted with small parks, many adjacent to schools.

    Schools
The community is established and is well-schooled. There are several elementary schools with both school boards, and the public and Catholic board high schools are in the neighbourhood, as is the public library. The community is also adjacent to Confederation College and close to Lakehead University.

    Shopping
The community is also close to the shopping at Victoriaville Mall and the Downtown South, north a bit to the Intercity Shopping Centre, where all the "big box" stores are.

Recreation To the west of the community are the International Friendship Gardens, The Centennial Conservatory, the Fort William Stadium, and the NW Ontario Sports Hall of Fame. The Chapples Golf course provides much community green space, and the park is connected to a recreational pathway system beside the Neebing River. There is an ice arena at the Fort William Gardens in the heart of the community. For movies, residents head to either the Silver City cinemas or the Northland Cinemas in the Victoriaville Mall. The downtown is also home to many civic buildings including the Thunder Bay Historical Museum. Just north of the community is the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition grounds.
