Dublin, despite its name, is very much a Jewish neighbourhood, with synagogues, shops and cultural facilities. There is also an Italian cluster along Sheppard. The area was a farming community since the early 1800s, and is named for 200 acre the Dublin Farm, once located at Sheppard and Dufferin, started by Irish émigré William Duncan in 1827, who went on to start a school and was the local Justice of the Peace. The community was named Dublin in 1878, and was subdivided in 1955. The area south of Sheppard (and closer to Wilson) is called Wilson Heights. The community is served by North York Branson Hospital, on Finch. East of Bathurst is the quiet community of Armour Heights, nestled between Earl Bales Park and the 401. At the east end of the community is the Don Valley Golf Course, both of which were bisected by the 401 when it was built in the early 1960s. Motorists have access to the Allen Expressway via Dufferin, which speeds access into downtown Toronto and also has a major interchange with the 401. TTC commuters are served by the Sheppard bus with connects to the Downsview station on the Spadina-University-Yonge subway line, and is also a terminus for the York Region Transit's Viva service (including to York U). There is a 104 rush hour bus along Wilmington & Faywood which connects to the Wilson station on the same subway line. The nearby York University GO Train station zips commuters right to Union Station. Schools The community is served by 3 elementary schools, 3 Jewish elementary schools, a Catholic elementary schools, a public high school, and 2 public libraries. Access to York University is by Viva Transit from Downsview station, and University of Toronto & Ryerson University are easily accessible by the Spadina/University/Yonge subway line. 
ShoppingThe area is dotted with plazas along Sheppard, Wilson and along Bathurst to the east. Many of the shops and restaurants focus on Jewish specialties, with Philipino specialty shops also popular. Power shoppers head south to Yorkdale Shopping Centre, just south of the 401. Recreation The community is dotted with small parks and playgrounds, and has ready access to recreational pathways along the West Don River. The West Don Parkland marks the northeast edge of the community (and includes the Toronto School Board's Forest Valley Outdoor Education Centre), and Ross Lord Park to the north has a reservoir, and Earl Bales Park to the east has a downhill ski area and an amphitheatre. 
North York Centennial Centre has an ice arena is used for hockey in winter (and is home to several Junior A hockey teams), and for inline skating in summer. The community has 3 tennis courts, two indoor arenas, an indoor pool, and outdoor pool, several baseball diamonds, and a running track. The Bathurst Jewish Centre is a multi purpose facility, home to the Leah Posluns Theatre and the Koffler Gallery. Also has a fitness facility with gym, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor track, and tennis & basketball facilities. The Don Valley Golf Course (public) is just SE of the community, accessed off Yonge St.
Homes Most of the homes in Dublin/Wilson Heights where built in the housing boom of the 1950s and 60s, and are mostly split-level and semi-detached homes, townhouses, and bungalows built on 50 to 60 foot wide lots. There are newer homes located around Balmoral Park (off Faywood Blvd) with nice brick & stone exteriors. The community has rental apartment buildings along the main arteries. Homes in this community are in the low to medium price ranges. Homes in the Armour Hieghts community were luxury homes built around a planned polo club, glof club and bridal path starting in the 1920s. The area's most expensive homes are overlooking the Don River ravine along Sandringham Drive, on both sides of the 401. There are a number of newer homes built in the 1960s and 70s. Homes in this neighbourhood are in the medium to luxury price ranges. Community Map
