  • Huntsville has approximately 18,000 residents in the heart of Muskoka's cottage country, and is a popular four-season family vacation destination. Huntsville is gateway to the Lake of Bays part of the Muskokas. Its historic Town Centre is surrounded by rural tracts of forest, 144 lakes in the municipality, and wetlands. Visitors can take in even more nature at Arrowhead Provincial Park is just to the north and world-famous Algonquin Provincial Park close by to the east.

    Tourism has well-established restaurants, lodgings, commercial attractions, and support services. The Algonquin Theatre, as part of the Huntsville Civic Centre in downtown Huntsville, opened in 2005 with a 408-seat theatre aims to serve the arts, culture and entertainment of the area's residents and visitors.

    The town's workforce of 8,000 is largely emplyed in retail & hospitality, manufacturing, construction and health care.

    Schools
    Huntsville has 5 English elementary and 1 secondary schools and 1 French elementary and 3 private schools. There are a number of post-secondary options nearby in Barrie and in Orillia.

    Shopping
    Huntsville has a small tourist-focused downtown shopping area, and 1 shopping malls.

    Recreation
    Huntsville is the heart of the Muskoka Lakes cottage country and has a number of beaches and marinas in the community and close by, as well as 1 indoor swimming pool. There are a number of downhill ski areas as well as cross country skiing trails and 7 golf courses very close by. The town also has 1 movie theatres, one live performance venue, and several ball diamonds and tennis courts. For those preferring to watch their sports, the town has the Huntsville Muskoka Otters OHA Jr 'A' hockey hockey team.

    Homes
    Most of the homes have been built in the last 30 years, and the city has more than doubled in size since 1982. You can find older homes in the central areas, even some heritage quality homes. The average prices (2006) for single family detached homes(not on water)is $175,000, with executive homes running $250,000-280,000, and semi-detached homes running $145,000, with townhouses running about $300,000 and condos around $190,000. Waterfront properties run $200,000 to $1.5 million.
