  • A picturesque town of 14,000 lies at the centre of Muskoka, and on the 45th Parallel, halfway between the equator and the North Pole. Bracebridge sits on a hill over-looking roaring waterfalls and both branches of the Muskoka River. With 22 waterfalls, Bracebridge is Canada's waterfall capital. The cascades can easily be found along the roads and trails of this vibrant town. The Festival of the Falls, usually held the first weekend of May, celebrates the Town's development in 1894 because of the readily available hydropower.

    The town's workforce of 8,000 is largely employed by the retail & hospitality sectors, as well as manufacturing, health care, and construction.

    Schools
    Bracebridge has 8 English elementary and 2 secondary schools. Muskoka Campus of Georgian College (Barrie/Orillia) located in Bracebridge; Nipissing University, Muskoka Campus located in Bracebridge Campus offers full and part time studies, and there are a number of post-secondary options nearby in Barrie and in Orillia.

    Shopping
    Bracebridge has a small tourist-focused downtown shopping area.

    Recreation
    Bracebridge is the gateway to the Muskoka Lakes cottage country. It has a number of beaches and marinas in the community and close by, as well as 1 indoor swimming pool. There are a number of downhill ski areas, cross country ski trails, and 4 golf courses very close by. The city also has 1 movie theatre, several museums and historical sites, and one live performance venue. For those preferring to watch their sports, nearby Huntsville has the Huntsville Muskoka Otters OHA Jr 'A' hockey hockey team.

    Homes
    The average prices (2006) for single family detached homes(not on water)is $190,000, and semi-detached homes running $135,000, with townhouses running about $165,000 and condos around $170,000. Waterfront properties run $200,000 to $1.5 million.
