This community is nestled on the east bank of the Red River, between it and the Seine. The area’s main north-south roads, St Anne’s and St Mary’s route you quickly into the downtown, while Bishop Grandin, which bisects the community takes you quickly to southwest Winnipeg. The area was predominantly French-speaking, but it is now strongly bilingual, with area schools offering education in both languages. Kingston Crescent (only 10 minutes from downtown) bends tightly inside a matching tight bend in the Red, west of the St Vital Bridge, and offers graceful older homes backing onto the Red River for around $200,000. The neighbourhoods to the east, Elm Park, St George and Worthington, have many homes 25-50 years old, with new houses toward the south. Prices here range from $50,000 to $100,000. Along the Red, moving south are a number of other fine communities, all blessed with riverside parks: Victoria Crescent (which has some riverside homes), Riel (with new homes being built along River Pointe, and close to the St Amant hospital), have homes running $200,00 - $500,000. Further south is Normand Park where homes run $140,000 to $300,000. To the east of St Mary’s, curled around the large St Vital Centre, are a number of newer neighbourhoods including Meadowood Park, Nova Vista, Dakota Crossing, and River Park South. Many of the new neighbourhoods being developed here are architecturally controlled and have lakes with parks in their midst. Older home, to the north, run $80,000 t $120,000 and newer homes to the south run $85,000 to $200,000. There are new homes on country estates being built south of the South Perimeter Highway, and north of the dikes of the Red River Floodway, in the $100,000 to $500,000 range Schools The St Vital School District #6 administers this community’s schools. The southern areas are mature and well-schooled, though the newer more-southerly neighbourhoods lag in school construction. The board has 15 English elementary & middle schools, 4 English high schools, 4 French immersion elementary & middle schools, and one French immersion high school. The community has two libraries, and is across the river from U of M’s campus, best accessed via Bishop Grandin Blvd. Shopping 
There are a number of stores and services along the community’s main thoroughfares, but the community is dominated by the large St Vital Centre mall Recreation With rivers on its eastern and western edges, the community has an outstanding number of riverfront parks. St Vital, Normand, and Maple Grove are the largest along the Red River. The area along the Seine is undeveloped and without formal park status. The Niakwa Golf and Country Club is in the north end of the community, and a little further north are the Windsor Park (municipal) and the St Boniface golf clubs. The Winnipeg Canoe Club (which does much more than canoe) is at Dunkirk & Fermor. In the winter, you can also cross-country ski at the Windsor Park Golf Course. The community has 6 outdoor rinks, one arena, one indoor pool, a tennis court, and a running track. Louis Riel’s birthplace and home is a national historic site, on River Road, south of Grandin.
