    Pembina Crossing Shopping Centre

    This community straddles Pembina Highway in the south side of Winnipeg, and is nestled between Taylor Ave to the north and Bishop Grandin Blvd to the south. This community is midway between the University of Manitoba campus and downtown and snug against several curves in the Red River.

    The Fort Garry community, east of the industrial areas is mature and includes a mix of single family homes, condominiums, and apartments. Fort Garry encompasses the neighbourhoods of Wildwood, against the Red River, Beaumont nestled against the industrial parks to the west, and Maybank in the south. Homes in this area run $60,000 to $250,000

    Whyte Ridge is south of McGillivray Boulevard, and nestled between the Whyte Ridge Industrial Park and the Fort Whyte Centre for Environmental Education, with its scenic wetlands and lake. This 10 year old community is growing quickly with new homes in the $120,000 top $300,000 range. There is a new community centre under development.

    Schools

    This community’s schools are managed by the Fort Garry School Division #5. The area has 6 elementary schools ( plus 2 Catholic, and one Montessori school) and two secondary schools, Vincent Massey in the east, and South Winnipeg Technical Centre in the west. The area has one public library, and is very convenient to the U of M campus to the south.

    Shopping

    Pembina Highway is the main south Winnipeg shopping district with many stores along its length. Area residents also head north to Grant Park Shopping Centre, and south to Pembina Crossing, both malls with movie theatres.

    Recreation

    The area offers a wide range of recreational pursuits: it has the Wildwood and Crescent Drive golf courses along the Red River and Arnason’s driving range just north of Bishop Grandin, It has the Winnipeg Soccer Complex on its western boundary, and the Soccer Spectrum, a boat launch at Crescent Park Drive, and the beautiful Fort Whyte Centre for Environmental Education to its west. Not far to the north, at Grant Park, is the beautiful Pan Am Pool. The community itself has 3 outdoor rinks, 1 indoor arena, a soccer complex, 2 tennis courts, an outdoor pool, and cross country skiing trails in Crescent Drive Park.
