This area is on the east bank of the Red River, north of the Perimeter Highway. East St Paul is a rural municipality, with most homes along Henderson Highway, close to the river. There is a lot of development along Hoddinott Rd, which connects to Birds Hill Rd. Birds Hill is a poplar community just off Lagimodiere Blvd (Route 59) and is home to the municipal offices. Here are executive homes on large lots being built along Pritchard Farm Rd, priced around $250,000. Another new development, just north of the Perimeter Highway is Whidbey Harbour, near the old ferry landing.

The community started wth 2145 acres (504 hectares) of land granted to Jame Curtis Bird (1773-1856) after he retired in 1824 as a Hundson;s Bay Compay chief factor for the Lower Red River. The post office, opened in 1879, was named by Bird's son who was born on the Bird's Hill estate.

    Schools

This area’s schools fall under River East School District #9. Children in this area have 2 elementary schools, though high school students will be bussed to the nearest school a few kilometres south.

    Shopping

There is a small plaza along Birds Hill Rod, though for major shopping, residents head south on Route 59 to Kildonan Place Shopping Centre.

    Recreation

The area is rural in nature, and has wide undeveloped areas. There is Silver Springs Park with small lakes just east of Birds Hill Rd. The community centre has an indoor arena and an outdoor rink. The Highland Provincial Wayside park, off Henderson Highway has a boat launch and tennis courts, Fungels Golf Centre (driving range) is just south of the community, and a little further south are the beautiful Harbour View Golf Course and Kil-Cona Regional Park..
