  • This community of 10,000 at the northern-most tip of the Saanich peninsula is home to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal to Vancouver and the Gulf Islands. This peninsula is about 16 kilometres long and 6 kilometres wide, with ocean frontage along its perimeter.

The different neighbourhoods in North Saanich, from north to south (and east to west) are: Curtei’s Point, Swartz Bay, Lands End, Sandown, Deep Cove, Airport, Ardmore, Dean Park, Coles Bay. Homes tend to be along or close to the water, and have long winding, unpaved lanes. The homes in this area also tend to have large lots.

    Schools
North Saanich only has two public schools, one in Deep Cove, and one on McTavish Rd, so almost all children get bused to school. The District shares Parkland high school with Sidney. There is a public library just north of Beacon Ave, Sidney’s commercial centre.

    Shopping
Beacon Ave is Sidney’s commercial centre, with a plaza. The more touristy shops tend to be closer to the waterfront.. Serious shoppers, though, head down the Pat Bay Highway into Saanich to the Town & Country Shopping Centre.

    Recreation
The District’s recreation is centred around the water. Pretty well anytime a street comes year water, there’s a great beach. The best beaches are along Lands End, Deep Cove, Ardmore and Bazan Bay. The area has a couple of great parks including (from north to south) North Hill Regional , McDonald Provincial, Blue Heron, and the largest, John Dean Provincial Park which is home to Mount Newton. The best park land is offshore, a short passenger ferry ride to Sidney Spit Provincial Park. The Panorama Leisure Centre, just south of the airport, is the recreational hub of the Saanich Peninsula. Just west of Sidney is the Sandown Raceway, the Victoria area’s harness racing track. The district has two golf courses off West Saanich Rd: Glen Meadows and Ardmore.
