  • This community, on the southeast side of downtown, nestled against Rock Bay has 17,000 residents. The Fairfield neighbourhood is bounded by Blanshard Street to the West, Fort Street to the North, Foul Bay Road to the East and the waterfront (along Dallas Road) to the South. The prestigious Rockland neighbourhood is on the northeast edge of Fairfield. The area is represented by an active community association which publishes The Fairfield Observer.

    Schools
James Bay is served by two public schools, though older students must commute to Victoria’s Central junior high and Victoria Senior High. The public library for the area is in the downtown core. University of Victoria (UVIC) and Camosun College’s campuses are both fairly close (about 5 km away)

    Shopping
The area has several small shops, though the best shopping is downtown at the Eaton Centre.

    Recreation
Craigdarroch Castle and the Art Gallery of Greater Vancouver fall within this neighbourhood. Recreation in the area tends to look in three directions: north to the Inner harbour and downtown, west to Beacon Hill Park, and south to Dallas Rd and the Juan de Fuca Strait. There is a great running/biking/blading trail along the water stretching from the Ogden Point Breakwater to the eastern end of Ross Bay Cemetery. Foul Bay also has a great beach.
