  • This community lies west of Ontario Street in Vancouver, and is close to both UBC and the city's airport. This is the centre of the city's "Establishment". The very most desirable areas are "Shaughnessy" and "Point Grey,"on the hill overlooking Vancouv er's downtown, or close to the water, with views of the North Shore. Homes in these neighbourhoods go for a million dollars. The upper-middle-class Dunbar and Kerrisdale neighbourhoods are close behind. The south and east are popular with Asian immigrants, who often redevelop with so-called "monster homes," that build very close to the property lines. The traffic in this area can sometimes be heavy, since it's main streets are along the direct routes to downtown, the airport, and UBC.

    Homes
There are a number of 1910-1920 era Craftsman, Tudor and other styles, with a lot of larger newer homes. The area has both high- and low-rise condos and townhouses near shopping districts and centres. Homes can run from $1.4-2 million; townhouses will run $670-727,000 as high as 1 million; and condos can run $484-495,000.

    Schools
There are lots of schools in the area (map). Post Secondary opportunities are abundant, with University of British Columbia, Emily Carr School of Art & Design, Langara College, plus all the downtown institutions close.

    Shopping
There are number of shopping districts in this area, including along South Granville Street, West Broadway, Kerrisdale, and West 10th. If you're looking for high-end shops and boutiques, you're in the right neighbourhood.

    Recreation
The area has a number of excellent fitness and recreational facilities. The UBC athletic facilities are close, as are the wide-open UBC endowment lands. Below the UBC bluffs are long (and quiet) beaches, while on English Bay, the beaches have great views of the North Shore mountains as well as the city's downtown.
