  • South Vancouver, which comprises the neighbourhoods of South Vancouver, Oakridge, and Marpole, is more mid-century suburban and middle-class than the rest of East Vancouver. Marpole, along the Fraser River is full of parks. Oakridge is more affluent and has a variety of churches and a Jewish community center. South Vancouver itself, sitting on the edge of the industrial lands along the Fraser, is still home to an incredibly diverse population. Southwest Marine Drive, along the Fraser easily connects the community to South Burnaby and New Westminster to the east, and the airport to the west.

    Homes
Homes in South Vancouver run $648-682,000; with townhouses running 464-506,000, and condos in the $309-324,000 range.

Housing exists in a fair variety, including Vancouver Specials and ranch homes. There are many new executive and senior-executive detached homes being built. There are pockets of low-rise condos and townhouses throughout, especially along the Fraser and in the 162 hectare planned residential community of Champlain Heights (where the land is leased for either 99 or 60 year terms).

    Schools
There are lots of schools in the area (map). Post Secondary opportunities are abundant, with Simon Fraser University, and BC Institute of Technology very close.

    Shopping
The are a couple of shopping districts in the community. There is the "Little India," a South Asian shopping and restaurant district in the community. The nearest shopping mall is Oakridge.

    Recreation
Lying on the banks of the Fraser River, the best recreation is in Everett Cowley Park on the slope down toward (though not quite reaching the River). The area’s biggest fitness complex is at Killarney Park.
