  • Oakridge is an affluent neighbourhood in Vancouver is a diverse community with both a variety of churches and has become a hub for the Jewish community, with a recreation centre, seniors home and more. Oakridge is between Oak and Cambie Streets from 41st to 57th Streets. Oakridge has both a good street shopping scene and south Vancouver's largest shopping mall. Oakridge is about 10-20 minutes from downtown Vancouver and will be getting SkyTrain Stations at 41st Street (Oakridge Centre) and 49th Street (Langara College) on the new Canada Line south to Richmond.

    Homes
Oakridge is a collection of simple, but elegant houses on big lots with mature trees. Many single-family detached homes were built during--or before--the 1970s, with some heritage homes from the early 1900s, and there are some new executive homes being built in the neighbourhood. There are pockets of townhouses in the neighbourhood. It is a quiet and pleasant neighbourhood in the city.

Homes in South Vancouver run $648-682,000; with townhouses running 464-506,000, and condos in the $309-324,000 range.

    Shopping
Most shopping in Oakridge is along Cambie Street (with lots of restaurants and bars) and along West41st Street (including the nearby Kerrisdale shopping district). The neighbourhood is anchored by Oakridge Centre, a major shopping centre on Cambie Street.

    Langara Estates sign Recreation
The community has a number of small parks scattered throughout, and the VanDusen Botanical Gardens and Queen Elizabeth Park (with its Conservatory, Pitch & Putt, lawn bowling, , curling club, swimming pool and the Nat Bailey Stadium) are just to the north. Queen Elizabeth Park is on top of Little Mountain which is an extinct volcano. The mouth of the dead volcano is now a beautiful garden popular with wedding and graduation photos. Oak Park, just to the south has a community centre and outdoor pool. Langara Golf Course is on the east boundary of the neighbourhood.

    Schools
The neighbourhood is served by 3 elementary schools, a public library and secondary school. Langara College can also be found in this neighbourhood, which is often attended by students who are eager to enter one of the two universities in Greater Vancouver. UBC is conveniently located to the west.
