These neighbourhoods lie east of Queen's Park. Sapperton was once a "suburb" of New Westminster, and was named for the Columbia Detachment of Royal Engineers ("Sappers") whose camp was located here (by today's cemetery). The neighbourhood is home to the Royal Columbian Hospital and is served by the SkyTrain's Millenium Line (Sapperton and Braid stations). The neighbourhoods of Sapperton and Victory heights are home to about 5,000 residents, about 20% of whom are immigrants (the largest groups from the Philippines, India, the United Kingdom and the People's Republic of China) Homes Most Victory Heights residents live in single detached houses, in small families. Sapperton residents are equally split between rental apartments and single-detached homes, with a higher ration of singles or couples than families with children. Shopping There are shops and restaurants located along 10th Ave and Columbia Street, which also connects to nearby Lougheed Mall and Cariboo Centre shopping centres to the north. Recreation The neighbourhoods have small community parks scattered throughout and adjoin the Cariboo-Brunette River Conservation Area. The neighbourhood is home to the Sapperton Rovers, one of Greater Vancouver's strongest soccer teams. Schools The neighbourhoods are served by 3 elementary schools, and students attend New Westminster High, to the west.
