  • The Maple Ridge community lies on the north shore of the Fraser River, east of the Pitt Meadows community of Haney and west of Hayward Lake. This local economy used to be based on rural farming, logging, and milling. The community is still very rural, with Kanaka Creek Regional Park running through the community and Golden Ears Provincial park in the north side. The West Coast Express station gives ready access to Vancouver, saving a horrendous commute.

    Housing
Homes in Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows run $426-483,000 with condos costing typically $241-259,000.

Housing consists of bungalows, Vancouver Specials, with some condos in town. The area is getting many new executive homes scattered throughout the countryside. Kanaka Ridge Estates offer home along the lower reaches of the regional park. Fraser View Estates offer single family and multi-family homes with a view of the River, just off the Haney Bypass. Maplewood offers moderately priced creekside townhomes, while Fairhaven Park has houses in the higher price ranges.

    Schools
The community has 24 elementary schools, four senior secondary and 3 independent schools in the MapleRidge & Pitt Meadows district. There is a special school for children with severe disabilities.

    Shopping
The are a has a fair number of strip malls, given its relatively low density, though there are three malls in Haney, on the west side of Maple Ridge.

    Recreation
The area has a fine Regional Park and a Provincial Park. As one of the oldest communities on the Mainland, there is the Heritage River Walk, the Haney Museum, and the Maple Ridge Museum. The community has an award-winning leisure centre, an ice arena, a curling centre, and a martial arts/boxing centre. There are also four area golf courses.
