  • These neighbourhoods are on the south shore of False Creek and les on the hillside facing Vancouver's downtown. Fairview covers the area between 16th Ave and False Creek and Oak St. to Burrard St. The community's north-south streets are all named for the area's native plants. Fairview has a mix of business, healthcare, and residential use, and of course proximity to the lively Granville Island Market. The area has many medical clinics and specialists, located close to Vancouver General Hospital.

This area was once a bustling industrial waterfront area (only Granille Island's cement plant remains), but has been transformed into a thriving residential community overlooking the False Creek, only minutes from downtown via Granville Street. Office buildings are concentrated along West Broadway.

    Homes
The community has some single family homes, but the area is increasingly filled with low-rise and high-rise condos, apartments and co-op housing built fter the 1970s, with beautiful views of the glass skyscrapers in the foreground and the North Shore mountains in the background.

    Shopping
The biggest attraction in Fairview is Granville Island, an old industrial land that was converted to a lively cultural and tourist centre. The Granville Island Public Market is a huge success because of its fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and fish for sale. There is also lots of shopping along West Broadway and along Granville Street heading south. The neighbourhood is not far from all the shopping in downtown Vancouver.

    Recreation
The community is close to the recreational pathways along False Creek, and especially Vanier Park and Kitsilano Beach (best know for its beach, outdoor pool, and beach volleyball) to the west, overlong the waters of English Bay. There are lots of Restaurants and bars along West Broadway, along Granville St and on Granville Island. The Stanley Theatre and several cinemas are in the area.

    Schools
The neighbourhood is served by 3 elementary schools (including a French language one, and a Catholic one), and a public library, and the secondary school is nearby. The Emily Carr Institute of Art is also situated on Granville island, and the community is accessible to the UBC campus to the west.
