Just north of the "Muni" City Centre Airport, the railway tracks and the Yellowhead Highway (#16) are several quieter, older communities with nice cozy 40 year old homes with mature trees. These neighbourhoods include (from west to east): Wellington, Athlone, Kensington, Calder, Rosslyn and Lauderdale and stretch from St Albert Trail (#2) east to 97 Street (#28). Some new homes are being built on existing lots in this area, which is undergoing a surge in popularity without commercial airliners flying overhead anymore.
Schools This community has seven public elementary schools, and four Catholic elementary schools (clustered to the west) in the north end. There is a public library in the middle of the community, and the high schools for both school boards are just east of 97th Street. Shopping Shopping in the area tends to be clustered in either a small plaza to the north on 137th Ave, or the strip malls extending along 97 Street. There are two malls to the northeast of the community, at the intersection of 127 Ave and 97 St: Northwood Mall and North Town Mall. Recreation The community has a number of recreational facilities. To the northwest are the Knights of Columbus Sports Complex (with its ice arena), the Cineplex Odeon Twin Drive In, and two golf courses on 137th Avenue (just west of St Albert Trail). In the middle of the community is a large park, which is home to Grand Trunk Leisure Centre with both an indoor pool and an ice arena. Community Map
