This area, across the Dawson Bridge, to the east of downtown provides an established community with some great views of the downtown skyline. The neighbourhoods that are close to the River include (from east to west) Gold Bar, Capilano and Forest Heights. Some of the neighbourhoods are clustered around the ravines, including Fulton Place and Terrace Heights, across from Capilano Mall. This area has easy access to the downtown, via three different bridges (the other two area accessed vie 98 Ave on the south of the community. Homes in this area tend to be single-family dwellings and most were built between 1950 and 1975.
Schools The community has 6 public elementary schools and 2 Catholic elementary schools, with high schools for the Public Board and the Catholic high school in the area. The community also has a public library in the Capilano Mall. Shopping The area has a good-sized shopping mall, Capilano Mall just to the south. The area is also readily accessible to the downtown core. Recreation The area has large areas of parkland along the community's northern edge alongside the River (and the recreational pathway system), and is bounded by Gold Bar Park in the east, Forest Heights Park in the west, and bisected by a deep and well-treed ravine. Across the river is the Northlands (site of the Klondike Days Exhibition) and the Skyreach Centre (home of the Edmonton Oilers). The community has an outdoor pool, a running track, and indoor ice arena, borders on the Riverside Golf Course (and is across the river from Highlands Golf Course). There is even a boat launch at the top of 50th Street, just upstream from the Goldbar water treatment plant. Community Map
