  • [ Neighbourhood Map ]

This area, south of 23rd Avenue straddles both sides of Blackmud Creek, southeast of where it joins Whitemud Creek. This creates a strong feeling of rural peace in the community. The neighbourhoods that are in this are include Skyrattler, Keheewin, Bearspaw, and further to the south: Twin Brooks and Blackburne. The southern boundary of the area is Ellerslie Rd, which is the proverbial "Zero Avenue" where Edmonton's "Northwest Quadrant" begins. The areas north of Blackmud Creek are about 10 years, old, the areas south are newer. The Twin Brooks community is architecturally controlled and was begun in the early 1990s, and follows the upgrade of the 111th Street Bridge (from a winding valley road). Newer developments include The Village, The Ravines, Whitemud Hills, and Brookview.

    Schools
The community has 2 public elementary schools and a Catholic elementary school, with high schools for the public and the Catholic board a mile north of the community.

    Shopping
The new Riverbend Square is in the middle of the community, though the larger Heritage Mall to the north is preferred for major shopping trips.

    Recreation
The area has a few large recreational park areas in Keehewin and a lake in Bearspaw. The community is best known for the Blackmud ravine system that runs right through the community. There is a new YMCA recreational complex on 19th Avenue with a pool, racquet courts, and running track. The Famous Players Gateway cinema is close-by on Calgary Trail.
