  • [ Neighbourhood Map ]

University of Alberta is the dominant feature of this area This area, just south of the University of Alberta, and to the north of the Experimental Farm, has a number of well maintained older executive-style homes. This area is attracting a number of new condo developments, which are increasing the density in the area. The community includes the neighbourhoods of (from east to west): Allendale, Queen Alexandra, Parkallen, McKernan, Belgravia, and (on the northwest corner of the Farm) Grandview Heights. The area is blessed by its proximity to everything, but just far away enough to not have the traffic hassles whenever there are events and festivals. The area has good road access to the north (via Groat Rd), the West End (via Whitemud), and the city's south (again, via Whitemud).

    Schools
The community has 6 public elementary schools and a Catholic elementary school, with a high schools for the Public Board on the eastern end of the community, and the Catholic high school outside the area. The University of Alberta ("U of A") is just to the north, and is within walking distance. On the southern end, beside the Experimental Farm is the Alberta School for the Deaf.

    Shopping
Whyte Avenue is a lively boutique shopping district, with even a good grocery store. The area's closest shopping is a small plaza south on 111th Street, or at Southgate Shopping Centre, a little further south, across 51st Avenue.

    Recreation
The area has the large Whitemud Park on it western edge, and is connected to the river valley recreational pathway system by several bike routes running through the community. The community has an indoor swimming pool and an indoor ice arena The Mayfair Golf & Country Club is a short drive away, as are the John Jantzen Nature Centre and Fort Edmonton Park.
